"I am a first year teacher at Labay Middle School and I am constantly amazed at the level of caring and concern exhibited by the staff. Our principal is compassionate, supportive, and innovative. She is involved with the students and we all genuinely care about them. My goal as a teacher is to teach our children how to think; not what to think."

"Labay has changed significantly over the past few years. The student population has become more diverse and there are substantially more economically disadvantaged students than 5 years ago. Teachers and administrators are struggling to keep expectations high and it seems to be working. My student feels safe and is learning way more than I really thought they were able at 6th grade level. The science and math departments are excellent. There are many parents that stay involved and the musicchoir dept is one of the best in the district. Principal is new as of Spring 2005 but she seems firm, knowledgeable and is bilingual. We cant wait to see and hear from her more."

"From my 3 years of experience with Labay I give the Teachers who taught my child an 'A'. Ninety percent are excellent. The Parents-there is no PTO-help with dances, rewarding Teachers and the odd event but their input, based upon my experience at other schools, is lacking. So the Parents get a 'C'. I would give the Gifted and Talented differentiated curriculum a 'C'. There is only one Gifted and Talented class per grade with the rest of the classes being clustered. In 8th grade the Gifted and Talented class focuses on doing worksheets and getting ready for the State TAKS test instead of developing well reasoned, well articulated opinions. The use of computer technology needs to improve so I would give computer technology use a 'D'. Labay offers many, many great extracurricular activities and gets an 'A+' for enrichment. Overall I give Labay a grade of 'B'."
