"I think that some teachers forget that it's an IB School so they give more work than they should. They never take in consideration that they have other IB projects or work to do other than their own."

"Westchester Academy is a school with an international appeal, therefore, many teachers come from around the world, which is great, in terms of diversity, but a lot of international teachers, wether for math or foreign languages, have different teaching methods and they are very strict. They tend to show favoritism towards some students and they are very hard to approach since they can be a little intimidating. Aside from teaching methods, the majority of the teachers at Westchester Academy are very knowledgeable, know their subject, and are very passionate about teaching. When it comes to the learning environment, teachers from the ages of 23-30 and 65+ struggle to maintain control of the class; there are some disruptive students. Elective courses have a class size of 10-20 students, while Core classes have a size of 15-25, with some outliers. Westchester provides a great education, but it's up to the student to know what to do with the resources, that's public education in general. The small population provides a friendly environment with 60% of the students being Hispanic/Latino. I have to complement the History/Geography/English teachers for teaching the students with an international outlook, meaning, not putting the United States as the center of the world, which, I have to boldly say, is how the state's curriculum is designed, this eliminates the possibility of students coming out of high-school as bigots. So why do I rate the school as "it's okay"? As a student, here's my POV, ever since the departure of Dr. Blasingame in, I believe, 2012, the school, under the mandate of Jennifer Collier, has gradually lost its international focus, and become more focused on meeting the standards of Big Brother: International Baccalaureate. An activity involving solving a real-world problem is always sidelined if IB requires an essay to be written by next week. But IB provides a great curriculum!(can I have my money now?)"

"Most of the teachers at Westchester try very very hard to get us to not only remember the information but to understand why its important. I used to have teachers at other schools teach us the bare minimum in order to get their paycheck. WAIS is probably the one school I know of where the teachers sacrifice just as much as the students. Most methods of grading could be faster, but slight timeliness is the only issue. Grades are fair and just, and teachers like to have fun with us, and see us as respected individuals, yet at the same time as a collective entity of youth."

"Westchester provides a safe place for students who don't fall on a specific spectrum of "amazing at sports" or "gets straight A's all the time". Its a school for everyone to be their own person and pursue their interests. Its also an amazing opportunity to learn a multitude of languages. I have never seen so many German, French, Italian and Spanish speakers in one building, much less in one single grade. I've really come to know so many people from this school, people that in 20 years, I would not hesitate to run and embrace if I saw them in the street. Almost all grades get along with each other, and we all work together towards maintaining peace and a collective moral ground. If I were to wake up and be in 6th grade again, I would enjoy every moment of reliving my experience in this school. (I'd probably also get all A's this time around). This is the best school I've ever attended."

"I'm proud of our school spirit despite not having sports we make up for that with lots of clubs. Plus having an internationally mixed school encourages diversity and challenging oneself with langauge barriers. At our school the staff is very generous and welcoming as well as understandable in assigning fitting punishments."
