"There's a fair share of good and bad teachers at South high and I've had a good amount of experience with both. Overall, most of the teachers are willing to help struggling students (offering extra help, etc) yet only a handful seem to know how to properly teach. Only a small portion of the teachers try to engage with educational yet entertaining lessons and as a student, you can very clearly tell apart a teacher who's there because he/she loves the job from a teacher who's just there for the money. Powerpoint presentations and writing on the Smartboard as the lessons are progressing seem to be the most popular teaching styles and they work effectively. Grading is consistent for the most part, and interest in students really differs by teacher and I guess this is where the good versus the bad teacher comes in. The good teachers tend to be more aware of the students that tend to struggle a bit more than others and actually try to do something about it whereas bad teachers just wouldn't care enough to act on it. There are many other distinctions between the good and bad teachers but overall, the teachers aren't all that bad."

"The teachers are fairly nice. The curriculum is okay; they recently implemented common core, which I personally don;t like. They are pretty lenient about schedule changes. They don't let you switch teachers unless you have a good reason. The workload is okay, but the problem is that often, tests all fall into the same week one after another due to test scheduling days. It would be nice if that didn't happen."

"South high offers outstanding academics (although some teachers are subpar). In terms of standardized tests scores, our school is not one to fall behind. The curriculum for many classes is changing to become more common core-based and generally they're created to parallelize standardized tests. The scheduling process isn't that stressful as long as you meet your guidance counselor on time and make it clear which classes you want/do not want to take. Workload will significantly differ based on the rigor of the classes you take and also how much emphasis your teacher puts on homework. There are special study options such as one-on-one extra help after school and of course the study center where you can visit whenever you're free to receive help for various subjects from the teachers there. When we're just looking at the educational benefits, South is all the way up there. The school definitely puts its best efforts into making sure every student's academic accommodations are met and there's no doubt that South can offer phenomenal education."
