"Nothing bad goes on. But nothing special goes on."

"I graduated from North Chicago Community High School in 2010. My experiences there were extremely horrible at times, but I believe those experiences shaped me into who I am today. I was one of only a handful of students who were Caucasian. I constantly felt out of place, largely due to that. People perceived me in certain ways and either picked on me or kind of ignored my existence. I also had the same girlfriend all through high school. People were not very accepting of any kind of gayness at all, not even teachers. I was constantly given attitude due to all of those things. Anything that was different or outside of most students grasp.. was just ridiculed and belittled. Despite teenager students who were generally horrible, I met some of my favorite and most influential adult figures. Some of those teachers changed my life for the better. Many of them had more of an effect on my life than even my parents. I was always in advanced classes, which I loved because they were so much smaller groups of students. This school is unique but not necessarily in a good way. I ended up there because my step-father moved to the area to work for the Navy. I wouldn't have chosen that high school otherwise. However, looking back I wouldn't change it either. It made me a tolerant person. It helped me become patient. It helped me to understand ignorance and brought me to the realization that education is what sets us free from ignorance. It just helped me understand people outside of my race, religion, or class. If I could do it all over I would!"

"The academics offered at this school are average. It all depends on your grading level. For example if you wanted to be challenge you would be put in AP classes or Honor Roll classes. The teachers would even tell their students if they needed to be challenged or taken out of the class and be put some where to their level."
