"SJS is a very good school at the younger levels. However, The principal has absolutely no idea how to appreciate or discipline grades 6-8, often punishing entire classes for the transgressions of one or two. We were pleased with the education our children received through 5th grade. We transferred after a year in her junior high."

"We have been at SJS for a number of years, and I have felt at home since the first time we walked through the doors. Not only is the school completely strong academically, but it is strong on discipline (something that I think is needed desperately in today's world). My children are held accountable for their actions and taught to accept responsibility. These values along with developing a strong faith foundation are some of the most important attributes to becoming and being an adult who contributes and respects society and our world. The teachers have always gone out of their way to help when one of my kids have struggled in class -- by conversing with me and by taking time before and/or after school to work with him/her. The bottom line is St. Joe's prepares students for what will come in the future in high school and college by having high expectations of them. Something that is and will be greatly appreciated by me as they get older and more independent."

"I have three children that attend St. Joseph School and am very happy with the progress that they have made since transferring from the public schools. My oldest child was extremely behind in math and writing skills. The teachers have gone out of their way to be extremely helpful by meeting after school and before school, privately, almost every week to give extra help. I have seen tremendous improvement each year. The principal does have high standards of behavior but after experiencing the public schools, I have no issues with her being a little over the top. Above all, the religious education that my kids receive is priceless."

"If your child requires extra help with academics, then St. Joseph is not the school for them. With it being a small private school, they don't have the resources to help students who require specialized teaching. We opted to remove our child from SJS because their needs were not being met or addressed. If your child is an academic overachiever then SJS might be worth the price of private education."

"I am a proud parent of four children who attend St. Joseph School in Lockport. I also had a preschooler who attended the Four Year Old Afternoon Academy at St. Joseph. I noticed that my son was not as proficient in writing his alphabet. The letters were not clicking. After discussing with his teacher, we did decide as a family to have him repeat the program the following year. It broke my heart to see his friends, and mine, at the first day of Kindergarten, but looking back it was the best decision we could have made. I realize that he is more prepared and has only flourished more socially. I know by seeing his older siblings, it will only prepare him even more for the upper grades, as well. It was a very hard decision to make and I do know that in my heart it was in the best interest of the teacher and principal to help me make that decision. Honestly, I think it was hardest on me as a parent and my son has not been affected negatively by the outcome, only positively. He is very excited to be attending Kindergarten next year, with his brothers at St. Joseph School."
