"This school is ok insofar as there are some great teachers who care a lot about the children. There are lots of happy motivational assemblies and educational assemblies as well as field trips. The GATE program needs to be more active. Just having a GATE program is not enough, you need to actuallly have activities for the kids on a regular basis. There is a librarian, but the school could use a computer class as well - it is a necessary thing in this modern world. Healthy food choices are improving in the cafeteria. New playground equipment is being sought and that will help a lot too. The campus itself could use some weeding and the restrooms always look terrible. Student council is a bad thing in elementary school, in my opinion. It is just a popularity contest which encourages bullying and an "us v. them" mentality. The kids are not old enough to handle it. These things being said, it is probably the best elementary school in the local area. They do "teach to the test," but what public school does not???"

"This is just another school that does nothing but drill for state tests. This is a state-wide problem with government run schools teaching on failed models, and my child won't be returning next year because of this. Their "anti bully" "campaign" is a joke as well."

"Given the lack of resources and what earlier reviewers implied regarding "dead wood", CVS was an ok school. The principal, however, is excellent, responsive, and a good listener. Principals have a difficult job, and Mr. Hoskins does a great job over things he has under control. The rest is district, state, family, and market conditions. Students, in general, appeared to be of above average quality with respect to academics, character and discipline. A family and child amenable to homeschooling will get a better education, but as a non-homeschool option, I'd send my child to CVS over the local charter school which has a very high (!) student-to-teacher ratio."

"CVE got a new principal when the previous principal retired at the end of 2009. The new principal has introduced #1 student assemblies, started a student council, updated the website and started a facebook all with the intention of improving communication."

"Overall I like coyote Valley. Ofcourse there are teachers that should retire but I think you will find that at other schools too. It's too bad that it's so hard to let teachers go, like the ones that have been teaching way too long."
