"My daughter loves this school. She came from Poland and her dream was to attend LaGuardia High School. Now she is a freshman and really loves this school and everything associated with it. She met wonderful teachers who inspire her and encourage her to work :) She has a lot of great friends who support her and are willing to help. She now likes to learn, she has a purpose in her life and it makes me very happy. Although being both academic and artistic is very hard for students to maintain. However, as my daughter says: "This school is worth it" :)"

"My son is a senior in the Drama Studio at LaGuardia, and it's been a great experience for him, both in terms of the quality of the arts instruction and the academics, which have become much more rigorous during the tenure of the current principal, Ms. Bruno. Last night I attended an awards ceremony for my son's AP Environmental Science teacher, who won a coveted Sloan Foundation Award for excellence in teaching science. Tonight my son is at rehearsal for the annual musical which every year is near-Broadway quality, and presented in a theater that seats 1,100. Even if he successfully pursues an acting career, he may not get the chance to perform on such a stage again. And we really love the kids. They're great -- smart, funny, fun, creative, and very supportive of each other. The school communicates effectively with parents via a weekly newsletter which is chock full of info and written with a dash of humor (thanks, Dr. Stricklin!). And studios have monthly meetings for parents that back up to the more general PA meetings. We feel so lucky that our son had the opportunity to go to LaGuardia. He's gained so much from it over the course of his 4 years."

"I have now been a LaGuardia parent for 7 years now and am still THRILLED with the way this school develops the whole student. This is due to an extremely caring staff! We were just devistated by the hurricane, yet the Guidance and tchrs have gone out of their way to give my daughter a place to belong and the help she needs as the rest of her life washed away. Although being both academic and artisitc is VERY difficult for students to maintain (don't think it will be easy), this develops the BEST kind of person. I wouldn't trade LaGuardia for any school in NYC!"

"Feel I must respond to the bitter assessment of LaGuardia posted below. There is no one school in the world that is perfect, and that fulfills every students every need. There will always be the good and the bad of everything. That said, I feel strongly that for my son, LaGuardia was a magnificent place to spend high school. He was challenged, and was asked to challenge himself. Self- responsibility Is required at this school, and though for some kids it might be slow in coming, it is continually emphasized by most teachers and the curriculum. It seems, that for students who are self-motivated, there is a huge menu to choose from. It is a school that has large focus and intense nurturing of the Arts ( hence the name), but based on the number of graduates who have gone on to highly competitive and exclusive colleges, and thrived, in areas that are not all Arts related, I would say the school is doing something right. I can't think of a school that would have been better for my son - and he seems to be thriving now in his Freshman year of college. Clearly, the balancing act required by the full full schedule at LaGuardia is not for everyone, but it was a gift for my son."

"Both of my daughters attended LaGuardia; one is now in college and the other will graduate this year. They are very different people with different interests; yet both thrived at this school. The students at LaGuardia are bright , creative, passionate and very supportive of each other. The Principal and the teachers are very dedicated. In spite of continual budget cuts, they manage to provide the students with a fine education in the academic subjects as well as the arts. The parents are very involved, and work hard to help support the different programs. It is a wonderful community - one that I, and my family, are very proud to be a part of."
