"Mainland is such a strong community and we truly are a family. It makes me so sad to think that I have to graduate but i would not have wanted to attend any other school. We have such great kids at this school and i feel like everyday I make a new friend. My favorite things about mainland is our sporting events and pep rallies. We all come together and you can feel the love and school pride in the air which gets my adrenaline pumping."

"Mainland is an average high school pretending to be more than it is, which is a shame, because it could be a great high school under effective leadership or with better teachers. This school is all about sports and maintaining its "community" through sports. Academics are a mere afterthought, and are being "dumbed down" every year so that they don't remotely place any stress on the sports superstars in the school. There is no honor roll, no class rank, and no top ten; they do everything to place as little emphasis as possible on academics. Ap classes are available but most are taught by teachers who recycle the same material, tests, and projects year after year and have dismal or average AP scores. Teacher's second or summer jobs seem to be the passion of many teachers here. Teachers take off an inordinate number of class days and when that happens, they don't leave lesson plans or work for the students, rather the students just hang out in the cafeteria. There is no STEM program,no Robotics club, no Future Business Leaders of America, no Political Science clubs, no Debate Team, mostly just service, arts, and sports clubs/teams. None of the innovative programs available in north Jersey schools are evident here, nor does the school seem receptive to them. None of the administrators seems receptive to changing the status quo with regards to strengthening intellectual programs. They are however revolutionizing the GYM/ Physical Ed program. Gym/ PE class is now going to be THE innovative focal point of Mainland. This describes Mainland to a "T". The school is ranked as high as it is in my opinion due to the socioeconomic and genetic influence of the parents in the district- Its a wealthy (for south Jersey) and educated community. The school self segregates w regard to race. There isn't any effort to encourage appreciation of multicultural diversity amongst the students."
