"As a transfer student I can't say much in regards to the overall quality of all the teachers and their teaching methods, but from my short stay at Miami Jackson the few teachers that I have had the pleasure to meet have only been the volunteer teachers in the Teach for America program. Those teachers were great. They were highly intelligent (fresh out of top-notch universities) and highly motivated to teach us everything they knew about their subject of expertise. I not only learned more than I have in all the other high-schools (I move a lot so I have been to a fairly high amount of good schools) but they re-lit my passion for knowledge. Sadly the Teach for America program is only a two-year program and most of these amazing teachers are long gone. I was only fortunate enough to have had the chance to be their student for their final year. Now as a senior in high school all I can say is that the Teach for America program is the only thing this school had going for them. The permanent teachers at this school don't really have the motivation or desire to teach. There's a reason why this school was an ETO school. It's not the students. Like me there is a fair amount of students who have all the desire in the world to learn, not just get good grades, but really learn the material but there aren't many teachers interested in teaching. I gave the review a three out of five only for the few teachers whom I've had the honor of learning from and my AP chemistry teacher who is one of the few Teach for America volunteers left making a difference in this school."

"When I first entered the doors of Miami Jackson Senior High in the middle of my junior year the first thing that caught my attention was the tiny farm to my right. There were chickens, goats, and a couple of baby ducks waddeling around in a tiny handmade wooden pen. I thought it was the most interesting thing I had ever seen. When it came time to pick my classes my elective options were limited, my counselor said it was between French, Intro to tech, and Agri. Science. Upon hearing the words "Agri. Science" I instinctively shouted "That one!" She seemed momentarily stunned and taken aback. "Are you SURE?" she asked with a quizzical expression on her face. "I'm absolutely positive." I replied. It was the best academic decision I had ever made. When I first met Mr. Ferreira or as he likes to be called "Fluffy" I was in awe. I didn't expect to learn much from this school, let alone this class that almost every other teacher and administrator in the school deemed "unnecessary". Fluffy knew (well knows) more about a large variety of subjects (from science to the history of Ancient Rome) than anyone I had ever met before. Ever. This class quickly became the highlight of my day. I never knew how much science was involved in seemingly simple tasks like growing plants or pest control. Everything I did in this class was hands on and one hundred percent Eco friendly. I've developed organic pesticides, fungicides, and organic compost all while gaining actual lab experience. I have learned how to build my own Aquaponics system and develop my own food forest. This class not only taught me how to become more environmentally aware but has also given me the opportunity to explore career options that I had no idea even existed. I was never too enthusiastic about coming to this school but to me this program was a tiny spark of hope in an otherwise chaotic mess of a school. With the knowledge of this program's existence I would definitely choose to attend this school all over again."

"Jackson is fun when you get to know most of the people and teachers. The pep rallies are really crazy and exciting. The parties and events at the school just hanging with friends are incredible. The best thing is going to football games and supporting friends or even the school. Dancing with the band and alumni's is the best feeling of high school."

"it doesn't offer competitive courses, the administration are more worried about your school attire instead of you actually being in class learning. The teachers that actually try to teach beyond the guidelines are told not to. The sports team aren't given the resources that other teams are given."
