"Southern Pines Primary is a great place to bee! The teachers are wonderful! They are invested in each child. The teachers there do not have much time to call their own during a typical teaching day. They are teaching, monitoring, listening, or giving hugs! There are wonderful reading programs that touch all if the children so that they have an opportunity to read! The overall climate is welcoming where children feel safe and supported. Emphasis on reading and math skills is made but not without losing sight of the overall child so that there is time for music, art and play!"

"The school has some great activities to challenge my bright child. The teachers are wonderful, but it is unfortunate that they are forced to teach a certain way, not leaving way for flexibility in their schedules. There isn't much developmental playtime anymore, even in Kindergarten."

"This school is not awesome but it isn't the worst, either. There are things that we really like but there are also things that we have serious concerns about. First, the positives: They have things like Chess Club, Garden Club, Drum Club, different ways for kids to get involved in activities that they might otherwise never have access to. Some of the teachers really reach for the stars and are wonderful. But, they don't allow parents to have any input in which teacher their children are assigned to. I understand why, but that can be frustrating. Negatives: Well, so far I haven't been very impressed with the discipline in the school. There have been situations in which things have been stolen from my kids, but there were no repercussions. Communication between the teachers and parents is pretty dicey. You have to be in the school, volunteering on a weekly basis, to have any real sense of what is really going on in the classroom. We've had several unfortunate situations occur with a "troublesome" young person in one classroom, but this child is allowed to remain in class, disrupting everyone. Pick a school carefully!"

"My kids have had great experiences (K and 2nd) at SPP. The teachers were effective, creative and kind. The administrative staff is generally helpful. Parents are encouraged to be involved. Research the school calendar options - the year round and traditional school years are significantly different. Be sure to choose which works for your family, especially considering the middle and high school do not offer year round. As a military family we prefer traditional for long summer vacations and continuity from post to post. I find most local families prefer year round. Either way, you will be pleased with SPP."

"SPP is an above average school with a beautiful campus, with older buildings that are well maintained. The teachers and staff are dedicated to educating all students, and helping them reach their individual potential. They have some unique programs (chess club for kindergarteners) as well good opportunities to explore the community outside the classroom. Some parents are super-involved."
