"Great Teachers that work in teams. They bring out the best in each child. The principal is approachable and very considerate of her students. She gets to know the children personally and I know that they really care about the students."

"My daughter and I have had mixed results with Grover C. Fields. There are definitely two types of students at GCF, ones who fit the mold and others that do not. For those who fit into GCF's system the results are good, for those who don't (racially, academically or otherwise) there are few resources. Communication regarding problems has never been good. I don't feel my daughter is well prepared for high school after attending GCF."

"We recently moved to New Bern and new nothing of the schools here. My son is in the 6th grade and was put in GCF. This school has been great for my son. He is getting good grades, his teachers keep me informed of how he is doing. My son is very happy here. He has joined extra curriculum activities and is really getting involved because of the leadership at the school encouraging the students to do more. GCF was a luck of where we moved to but it truly has turned out to me a great move for us."

"My experience with GCF is less desirable. my children were being left behind academicly and socially. My son in a LD student attending GCF. He was not allowed to participate in PE and other extracurricular activities because it was advise that he be placed in refresher courses. Each eighth grade student is required to take a State Computer test. Well my son was never allowed to take computer classes due to his LD but was required to take the state computer test. My son was tested and evaluated but none of his teachers were slightly familar with his EIP file, His teachers appeared unaware of his test results or his reccommended learning accomodations. And when asked to re-eval or change his accomodations i was kindly refused and placed on the bad parent list( which means i was avoided and ignored in a kind way)"

"The opportunity to have my children attend H.J. McDonald Middle School was afforded to me, and with the 'rough' reputation that was associated with Grover C. Fields Middle School(GCF) I seriously considered it, but I choose GCF instead. I am pleased that, that was one of my best decisions. My children have had only positive experiences at this school. The teachers are constant in their expectations, work studies and disipline. The EOG scores are proving that GCF is preparing these children for the next level. I can't say enough about the AIG program, and my children have participated in the Music Dept. and have benefited from that. The sports teams promote friendships and not only winning. The over all look of the school is imporving with all the work being done, and the 'rough' reputation is nothing more then lack of knowledge of the school, the faculty/staff, and student body."
