"My experience with the academic part of the school hasn't been great through all my four years there but the Arts is the part I've had the most fun in. I learn a lot in the vocal music department and that is the only reason I am still at the school."

"Our English department is the only reliable department we have other than arts. The curriculum we learn in classes outside of that department are not useful to our knowledge or our success in college. Many teachers do not keep order and control within the classrooms and often do not help us retain any of the information we are fed in their classroom."

"One great thing about OSA, is that you feel loved."

"I came to this school in junior year after 2 years in a public high school and it is honestly incredible. The teachers are wonderful, the kids are great, the area is always happening etc. I really enjoy my classes and genuinely learn so much every day. There are a lot of kids who have gone to OSA since 6th grade and don't understand how good they have it, but as someone who has outside perspective/experience with normal high school, this place is like fairyland."

"Oakland School for the Arts has been the most unique experience of my life, and I wouldn't trade that experience for the world. The arts teachers have groomed me to be prepared for a career in the arts, and their mentoring caused me to grow not only as an artist, but as a person. However, in some ways our academics are left in the dust. While our English and History departments are strong and successful in teaching creative minds, our Math and Science departments are greatly lacking. It's understandably hard to teach such empirical subjects to such unique students as we are, but the lack of funding and support is upsetting. OSA has room to improve, but I'm proud to say that I am who I am because of my school."
