"Both of my children attended Reed for 2nd and 3rd grades in the past 5 years. The Principal, while 'low key' and informal, is an excellent leader for the school and establishes a good rapport with the students and parents. The 2nd grade curriculum was regemented and average. I did not see much diversification in instruction. Both of my children went into the accelerated program which began in 3rd grade. This teacher was outstanding! The curriculum was combined with whole class, small group and individualized learning. There were several projects to supplement reading comprehension and science/social studies learning objectives. The teacher also exposed the children to new technology and used the computer to enhance instruction. This past year, the reading instruction was enhanced to incorporate guided reading. The school still needs to improve this reading instruction to individualize reading. The building is in need of updating."
