"This is a great school! Located in a renovated old church on a lovely tree-lined urban street, it has an inviting lounge as well as an equipped kitchen the students are permited to use. There's a caring, wonderfully tolerant atmosphere. I wish I could have gone to such a school! My son progressed amazingly thanks to the individual attention afforded by the small classes. The only problem is that it's SO tiny, there's really no extracurricular activities, but they make up for it by whole-school overnight trips and other special projects."

"We were so glad we found this school for our child. The faculty and staff are excellent in their teaching methods and understanding of students who need a non traditional school environment. We were delighted to find so many other families who had great kids blossoming at the Oakland school and had before fallen through the cracks at a public school."

"The Oakland school is a small private co-educational high school in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, near a variety of fine universitie including the Unversity of Pittsburgh and CMU. The school has very small classes which can accomodate a variety of learning styles in a low pressure environment. Because it is small the school is able to do some creative whole school activities to compensate for a sparcity of extracurricular activities. It is perfect for unique teenagers, who benefit from material adapted to their learning style, talents and needs."

"The Oakland School has been a great experience for our daughter. The emphasis is on learning, not the 'busywork' she received at our public school. The small class sizes allow the teachers to really teach the students. The Oakland School is a great fit for a student who wants or needs individual attention or for a student who has 'fallen through the cracks' at a larger school. We would highly recommend The Oakland School."
