"This is in response to the Feb 7, 2013 posting. I have had the opposite experience and would like to address your comments. I have a Junior at Malibu High and another child who graduated and is going to a UC. They both started at MHS in 6th grade and have done well. I found the teachers on all levels were and are helpful and immediately responsive when a child needed help, support and/or advice. There are excellent teachers in all departments and many opportunities and programs for students who need some additional tutoring or lesson clarification. In addition, the counseling and administrative staffs are very responsive with any problems and will provide options and solutions. However, parents do need to be involved, especially at the middle school level, throughout the school year. That's just reality these days in all schools. In last year's US News & World Report, the school is ranked 265 of all high schools in the country (out of 22,000) ... they must be doing something right."

"Many of the teachers simply show up for a paycheck, if a student is having a difficult time with a subject they do one of two things...artificially pass them to keep scores up or ignore them completely. There are too many kids per teacher. The middle school needs to go through a rehiring process badly."

"Excellent school, truly excellent!!! I am so grateful for this amazing place for both my middle schooler and high schooler. Dr. Kelley, and all of the teachers my kids have had to date, have been wonderful. The arts programs are outstanding and the sports teams are inviting to all! Academics keep both my honor students adequately challenged and interested. There was a need for a change in the science program, to accomodate kids and advanced placement, and they did. They listen to the families and address the needs of the kids. I am so excited for all the years yet to come at this phenomenal school!"

"I attended Malibu High and was involved in theater production, soccer and football. The classes were small and the students were engaged and upbeat. The teachers were friendly and approachable. Our Coaches were great too. The atmosphere seemed much more relaxed than other LA public schools I have attended. This school is a dream, relaxed, healthy ocean breeze with marine biology on the beach and a soccer/football field that rivals Peperdines campuses view. It's absolutely what you make it. The culture at MHS was very outdoorsy and creative, MHS offered student run talent shows, art classes, music performances, a surf club and spoken word poetry. Get involved and be grateful that you are zoned for MHS, save your kids private school money for college, this school is like a private school! Go Sharks!!"
