"My daughter spent one year at Aspen. The culture of the the school is more rigid and the philosophy more socialistic. Kids are rarely rewarded for work done well, they are just penalized if they don't get it done. There is small class sizes so teachers have more ablity to connect with each kid, there are few if any discipline issues or innapropriate language. Most of the families are highly active in their kids lives. However, the leadership of the school sees themselves as the expert and rarely considers input from parents. One needs to embrace their philosophy that they are the primary educator of your child and what they beleive is best must be followed regardless of a parents experience or knowledge of their child or particular area. Grading and progress is challenging to evaluate throughout the year, one must have great trust in the teacher. Trust is difficult to establish since parent has little involvement in the learning process. We highly value a culture of honor, humility and collaboration. Our experiences at the school did not find a match in these values."

"One of the best things about this school is the other families. Everyone is very dedicated and involved in their children's education and it is a wonderful community. However, the director is very stand-offish and not approachable. It makes for a very us vs. them environment. Add that to the ongoing new building problems and we had to pull our kids. The teachers were getting unhappy, the kids were crammed in there and the leader kept everything to herself. We were so happy with this school when it opened but felt it was going downhill as a new building became the most important thing. Also, there is no gifted talented program, they rely solely on the fact that it is a rigorous program already."

"Aspen is perfect for our family. Advanced cirriculum and dedicated teachers, with small class sizes. We also appreciate their parent volunteer requirments which encourages consistent parent involvement. It is truly a great community and our children are reading 1st grade level in K. Can't say enough good things about Aspen."

"--Hand-picked, very devoted and dedicated faculty; small class sizes, no bureaucracy. Staff does their work without the distraction of loads of administrative work. MEA does not dictate curriculum or negotiate work rule demands on behalf of the faculty. What a blessing. Our old school had a handful of teachers who were lousy but being "protected" for their last years before retirement. They didn't want to be there, and decided to retire on the job. It was awful. That is not the case at Aspen. --Rigorous "no fluff" curriculum (if you don't have the heart to see your kid with a sizable helping of homework each evening, this place isn't for you) --Parental involvement REQUIREMENT. You help 40 hours. Lots of parental involvement in and out of classrooms. --Social studies and history curriculum largely free of revisionist fluff --My kids all are one grade ahead in their math work, and moving quickly. --The kids--all of them-- learn Spanish and Latin. I realize we won't be resurrecting Latin anytime soon as a current language, but you should see what it does for their reading and understanding scores in English and Reading."

"Aspen Academy is and has been a wonderful school for my daughter. The curriculum is fabulous. I love how when she is learning about medieval times in social studies, she is also reading Robin Hood and King Arthur in Language Arts, as well as, learning about medieval achitecture in art. She can fully immerse her self in the study. The Singapore math program is top notch. The high parent involvement is also an unbeatable asset."
