"Some of my favorite experiences at this school would mainly be because of the individualized attention that it offers. I have a curriculum that is based upon which classes I need to take and what I need to do in order to graduate. Also, my teacher offers help for me that is strictly personalized in terms of what I need to do outside of the classroom in order to get the grades that I want."

"I have one teacher at Walnutwood High School and she is the reason that I am doing better and better every week in school. Along with being interested in my personal endeavors, she helps me a lot outside of the classroom through email correspondence."

"My teacher is incredibly friendly and helpful. She responds to her emails within a few hours and it always willing to go over topics again, as long as I'm trying to understand. If you do badly on a test, she helps you understand everything you missed. The biggest thing you can get in trouble for is not doing your homework. All the other teachers I've met seem to be just as passionate."

"Choosing to transfer to Walnutwood was one of the best decisions I've made. I've been able to be involved in so many extracurricular activities (sometimes 20+ hours a week between varsity golf, clubs, Girl Scouts, and two internships) while still taking AP and advanced courses. Even with so many activities and challenging classes, I very rarely have to stay up late to finish work - and when I do, it's because I procrastinated and saved an entire week's worth of assignments to do in two days. I've also never had to cut spending time with my friends. If I were to do my entire high school experience over again, I would do the exact same thing. I spent two years at my traditional high school, where I got through my lab science and visual performance requirements. I also got involved in varsity golf and founded a club and was in theatre performances and the like. I was able to stay involved in those things pretty easily when I transferred to WHS since I already knew the teachers in charge."

"Walnutwood has the best learning program I've ever been a part of. It's very focused on learning and understanding the content rather than just getting a good grade. If a student doesn't get a subject, they won't move on until they do. The teachers go above and beyond to help students learn in a way they are interested in and will comprehend. The workload can be a lot sometimes, but if you do some each day instead of waiting until the day before your session it's not that bad at all. The flexibility you get from the way school is laid out (you meet with your assigned teacher once a week for a couple hours to go over your work from the previous week and take tests - the rest of your time is spent doing your weekly assignments, which you can complete at any time so long as they're done by the next week) lets you take part in so many extra activities. This year, I was able to have two internships, play varsity golf, be the president of a club, earn my Gold Award, and do half a dozen more activities all while taking AP and advanced courses without losing any sleep or time hanging out with my friends. You also have room to take electives since you can get through courses a lot faster at your own pace. I've taken classes like art, creative writing, and interior design on top of my core courses. WHS is working on adding more a-g approved courses, but right now they only have Biology for a lab science. Students can get their second year by taking a class or two at the community college or one of the other high schools in the district. Some students take electives back at their home school (like choir or drama) and just do core at WHS and some take extra classes at their home school and the community college."
