"I graduated in 2008 from this school honestly in angers me how much they DO NOT prepare you for the real world. Yes, it is true the have the IB and avid programs, so for the students that make it into these programs, good for them! They're the ones who will be watched over, who are expected to succeed, so they will get more attention than the rest of the student. For myself because I was jumping in and out of AP courses I never felt that I had individual attention, I felt that I was babysat rather than being taught. And when I entered the University system it was apparent that I was not at the same standers as everyone else. I currently graduated from one of the top UC's but I struggled compared to the rest of my peers. I was always behind! I do not think I made it this far because of Norte Vista, I was one of the forgotten students who made it far because my parents help and my own determination."

"It's concerning that NOVI doesn't develop or maintain critical thinkers. More often than not, students are pushed out of the educational system for a variety of reasons but by no means do they get to this point alone. Consider the analogy of "it takes a village to raise a child". Well the same should be applied to the experience of students marginalized at NOVI Why is it when a student is "high achieving" it's due to the support of teachers and counselors but the same does not apply to a student pushed out? In my experience, my frustration attending NOVI along with the lack of experience to articulate my feelings was not once met with a caring or concerned teacher, with exception of two. One was a Spanish teacher who thought I didn't go to class because he thought j was pregnant. Not once did he consider that I may be bored in class because I already know Spanish. Similarly in English I would not attend class for weeks only to show up for an exam and score the highest grade. Instead of considering that I should be in a different level the teacher's only concern was how I was able to miss so much and still pass. As an educator now I carry these experiences of what NOT to do."
