"I must say that I truly like the school and the community. The school is a bit rigid, strong focus on academics, children are very polite and responsible. Kids do not have as much freedom as they might at public school (uniforms and appearance), but that is ok (makes my life much easier and provides more focus on schooling vs. coolness). Families and parents are varied - lots of blue-collar and professional parents - my wife and I are both in tech but find many of the parents are not (which is a nice break). Teachers are very loving and loved - kids will regularly seek out and hug previous teachers. Many parents are actively involved, but just as many are not and this doesn't seem to be a problem. They do expect a fair bit of involvement (40 hours per year of volunteer time), but even this is not that much. There are a couple of faculty that I would like to see improved upon, but the majority are great. Yes this is a Catholic school, but a fair number of the families are not religious - I have never seen this to be an issue or the families discriminated because of it. My wife is not Catholic and I think she likes the school better than I do."

"We have been attending Saint Cats for 4 years. Overall we are happy with Saint Catherines. I would say that the homework is laid on a bit thick but we are coping with it just fine. I am a single (white) mom, and I also disagree with the critical posting that summarized St. Cat's as only a place for the wealthy and privileged. There are many people who are sending their children to St Cat's with scholarship help, who have one parent, who are non caucasian folks. The key with St Cats is that it is a safe, structured, disciplined, and yes rigorous program. Burlingame is full of people who make lots of money (otherwise how could they afford this place), and I bet if you checked out the public schools in Burlingame you would see the same demographics. I don't necessarily fit right in at the country club setting that some of the people here are members of, but for me it not about how I fit in. It is more about giving my child a strong foundation in Christian values, a good education, and keeping her in a place I feel will give her the best advantages and opportunities to succeed in the future."

"I am deeply offended by the parent(s) who wrote their review of St. Catherine's on April 10th. As a working, "non-white" (I like to refer to it as non-Caucasian. If I'm going to be politically correct, I'm going to be consistent about it.) MOTHER, my child loves and strives at St. Catherine's. Also, the April 10th reviewer is in violations of the terms and conditions. She/he attacks the school's parents and how we raise our children. It has nothing to do with the academic program. St. Catherine's is a rigorous academic program - that's why I chose this school. I"

"This school is perfect for Catholic families of privilege and wealth with a stay at home parent, preferably a mother, and a father who makes buckets of money. It helps if you're really old fashion, don't understand or care very much about modern education, and are willing to neglect what is good for your child for what looks good. Let's start with the kids. They seem nice enough - you can't really fault kids. The faults they do have are the result of their parents and community, and this one is not lacking in faults. Burlingame is a wealthy and privileged place, and it produces those kinds of children. I find that a lot of the students to be very intolerant, and will openly express disdain for people of a lower class or non-white. Although the school does some charitable things at times and celebrate Martin Luther King Day, exposure to poor people isn't one of them. Poverty is conceptual here, but not acknowledged. And it's not the kids' fault; they're basically just regurgitating what their parents say. But you'd think that the school would stick up for some actual Catholic principals."

"Never had a doubt in my mind that this was the school I wanted my kids to attend. My son is enjoying school at the same time, being intellectually challenged. Parent participation is so important to this community. Both my husband and I are grateful that we can be active participants in our son's education. Our son's teacher let's us know what they expect the child to know by a certain time frame; both my husband and I appreciate these milestones. It may be challenging while we work with him but so rewarding when it suddenly clicks and he comprehends. The teachers have a wonderful way of maintaining control of the classroom without raising their voices or any other negative methodology. I'm looking forward to spending many years getting to know the St. Catherine's School community!"
