"I am a student at SJMS and do not like the school at all. I am not doing well at math and the teachers never help you."

"I am so happy with all of the changes in the last year and 1/2 since the new principal Jeff King arrived. The staff, teachers and the great leadership of Jeff has turned this school around to the way it was a few years ago. I had felt it needed to improve and now it so much better! Thanks, Jan Derby for getting Jeff to our school."

"I am pleasantly surprised at how well my children are doing at SJMS. They are in 6th and 8th grade and are really motivated by the teachers to do their best. I can see the improvement in their grades. I transferred my sons to this school after 6 years in a catholic school and I feel that my kids have received more individual attention and support at SJMS then they have ever received anywhere else. The new principal, Jeff King runs this school better than a private school. Everyone feels welcome, encouraged to pitch in and belong to part of a community. Thanks SJMS!!"

"San Jose has undergone a massive cultural change over the past year and a half. The focus is on college preparedness (yes, it does start before high school) and individual responsibiity and achievement. Parent involvement skyrocketed last year with College Fridays. Last year, every student was given the opportunity to tour UC Berkeley with his or her class to get the sense of what college is about and how they can get there. I believe next year will be the University of San Francisco. This school has a bit of a reputation from previous years. I stil hear untrue rumors about this school. I really encourage you to visit San Jose, talk to the administrators and see for yourself what has changed at this school. Eric Winkler, ewinkler@amsl.com."

"I've been so happy with my 2 children's experiences here! This school has a positive energy you can feel, and as a parent I especially love the high expectation for focusing on work and planning to go to college."
