"I am a senior here. The whole academy thing is not working out well. The only significant difference I see is with the counselors. No one knows where to locate the counselors now that the counselors are no longer located in the counseling office. All of us need recommendations, transcripts, and to know about our graduation requirements, but the counselors make it so difficult for us. They try to have senior talks with each individual academy group of seniors. But they have not been successful. Why can't they just have a large senior talk after school? Seniors who actually care about graduating would stay after school to get information. Some of us go to Maxwell or Grayson-Tech, and usually the academy senior talks are during lunch. Thus, some seniors are unaware of information that is necessary for graduation. I honestly feel that the counselors are helping the students who aren't on the track to graduate more than the students who actually are going to graduate. Why am I penalized because other seniors don't and didn't care about passing their classes? Our motto was "college not if, but where," but now it seems more like "just trying to get you out of here.""

"Where does one begin? My daughter is a 9th grader at South and is very unhappy there. She is an Honors student and is a great girl however this school is eating her alive. She has seen 5 kids beat within an inch of their lives...just this week!!! There are girls that pick on her and her friends and call them names for no reason and her teachers are not challenging her enough. Her accelerated algebra teacher just write problems on the board and tells them to copy it, not walk them through it. She is so frustrated. Since we bought our home, the school has hit a serious decline and I will not continue to submit my children to this school. We are selling our home ASAP and moving to North Gwinnett or Forsyth county. They really need to fix this school and quick. NONE of our neighborhood high school kids go here and that's just sad."

"This is a response to the parent post from earlier today....my family was in a similar situation with one son entering South Gwinnett and the other a rising freshman. We moved to a different school district midway through the school year last year. It was the best decision we could have made. My children (both of whom are AP Honors students) are finally being challenged in a school with other similar students. The extra attention the teachers are able to provide allows for the kids to really learn. Both of my sons are thriving once we removed them from the Snellville school systems."

"This is one of the worst school in Gwinnett. The administrative staff is clueless and have no idea who is responsible for what. Trying to contact the school by phone is a parent nightmare. No one answers the phone and if an when they answer you are either transferred to someone else's voice mail or disconnected. Forget about leaving a voice mail because your child's so called counselor will just not call you back. I wish I had to means to send my child to another school."

"South Gwinnett is way too easy. Recently they have been pushing students to be in AP classes, so now AP teachers have to accommodate for the students who are taking AP classes and shouldn't be. I am currently in 4 AP classes and each class is filled to the brim with students (except my AP Physics class). Teachers give students way too many opportunities for extra credit because about half the class fails the tests they give. My classmates are failing because, I hate to say it, they lack academic capacity that is needed to take these AP level tests and classes. Even with the 10 points we receive at the end of the year, most of these students are still failing which in turn makes the teacher feel bad, so they feel obligated to give out extra credit. Therefore, with AP teachers giving less challenging assignments and tons of extra credit, students like me who have been in the gifted program their whole life aren't being challenged in class anymore. I don't even remember the last time I've done homework and some how I got all A's last semester. I found myself getting 101's in two of my classes at the end of the year and having a 101 in an AP class just sounds unrealistic."
