"This is our first year at Collins.I had to comment here since a lot has changed over the years and its very important for the parents to get current scenario.Mrs.Nardone is a wonderful administer and I absolutely disagree with a previous review about her.We had an issue on the very first day of school regarding switching of LC and we were able to meet/discuss/mutually resolve the situation in one sitting. The staff is phenomenal,LC 5-2 has most experienced and most wonderful teachers EVER! I have no complaints about any program or teacher.Re: front office, they have replaced the staff and now ( since sept 2012) you are greeted by two smiley faces, that are ready to help.Involved PTO,they even changed the cafeteria menu to a healthy version ! Parking could get stressful though. All in all i"ll give it 5stars."

"My daughter attended Collins Intermediate. The school is like a prison. The class sizes are large, the lunchroom is very loud and the PE teacher would put a whistle at the end of her bullhorn to get the kids' attention. It was so loud, it hurt theiry ears. The teachers do not smile much and often seem stressed. The textbooks were all 10 years old and falling apart. Many times my daughter would have to wait 5-10 minutes between each class while the teacher finished teaching the class before theirs. Unfortunately, the TAKS test is tied to teacher compensation and there is an abnormal amount of pressure to do well on the test. The school is located next to a water treatment center and an power substation. The school does not encourage parental involvement."

"To address some of the issues posted here, the secretaries up front are new this year, and are very friendly and helpful. In PE, they run/walk 2 (short) laps as part of their warm-up routine, then move on to whatever sport or game they are learning. Collins is an excellent school with high standards for their students, and teachers who care about their students not just academically but emotionally and socially."

"This is my child's first year at Collins. I have been impressed by how seamless they've made the transition from elementary to intermediate for the students. My child loves the teachers in the LC and the orchestra teacher. I've had three interactions with the front office staff and have no complaints. I think some parents want to be overly involved and it seems like they don't want the parents to linger around like they do at some schools, which I can appreciate. This might lead to some negative reviews, but on all three occasions the front staff saw to my need at hand, dealt with it, and I moved on with my day. The only thing I'm annoyed with is the PE teacher. Daily laps around the school just seems a poor use of PE time and doesn't encourage kids to be active with fitness. We live in a beautiful area with well funded schools. Surely the PE department has fun equiptment for the students."

"Teachers were adequate. Office staff was rude. Entire 5th grade teaching staff quit the year after my oldest went there. Principal was and is unqualified and is reliably nasty to the children and parents, as was the vice-principal. My oldest went there and his grades went from Bs & Cs down to barely passing. My youngest will not be going there. We moved so she wouldn't have to go there."
