"Tampa Prep is fantastic - Great school!"

"For the cost that the school demands, its not worth it. Little student motivation, kids actually convince teachers to have study hall days when they're already behind the class schedule, kids will take AP classes for the credit and take the learning experience away from those actually interested in the subject, student council is badly chosen (all class reps are lazy and don't actually do anything; too lazy to host events themselves). iPad learning has been implemented, and its been shown that for students not born with that technology (so anyone born before ~2005) will still have to adjust to the technology, and its not included in tuition (neither are the apps). Experimental teaching methods (and teachers, classes) are made with no harm to professor or administration, but special harm to student (flipped classroom; very niche group of kids could understand it in first year, others took summer school and some could not continue to AP Calc despite previous success and interest in math fields). 60% the students do, or will, take drugs/alchohol. The school administration either knows and does not care, or is simply lax in their prosecution. They're firing all of their old, good teachers, rarely is a new teacher ever good at their job (arts teachers are all pretty good though, but arts are underfunded compared to the rest of the school, especially sports). Girls JV teams are heavily undersupported by the sports department. Comprehensive Abuse/assault and sex ed seminars are given too late to students (senior year) when they should be given at least sophomore year, as that is when the upperclassmen boys have, in the past, literally sexually assaulted girls (in their freshmen or sophomore years, by senior/junior boys). No effort by administration to take immediate, harsh action against students who have sexually or physically assaulted another UNTIL another family takes it to them. School psychologist is absolutely horrible at job. & so much more."

"My overall experience at Tampa Preparatory School has been great. The students are accepting and friendly to new students, and the teachers are top notch, though there is some favoritism. The college counselors at Tampa Preparatory School are extremely organized and efficient, and offer valuable information about different Universities. If I could do it all over again, I would definitely still apply to Tampa Preparatory school."

"There have been plenty of ups and downs throughout my time at Tampa Preparatory School. The faculty as well as the students created an accepting and understanding environment that allowed me to grow into the person that I am today. With the help of the faculty and staff I have found activities such as theater and community service that have played a major hand in the job of molding my character."

"At this school, diversity is key, sometimes too much. With the depression starting in 2008, the school expanded the types of people that they let into the school, which is great, but is hard to handle. An average person could get lost in the school, since many of the people belong to outcast specialized groups from public schools and applied to Tampa prep as an escape rather than a prestige. All of the students are nice enough, and most are happy to help you, but don't expect a large amount of school spirit, or a football team (they don't have one). The extracurriculars are 1st class. While at school I was part of the rowing team, winning three state championships, and going to nationals in the two years I was at school. The rowing team is excellent and the people are great; the sports teams and extracurriculars are great. The school has access to a black box theatre, and performs many shows throughout the year, including performances from the musical groups. The biggest problem with the school is the teachers. While some teachers (my calc 1 teacher, english teacher, and music teacher) were 1st class and both excited me about the subject, while teaching me the valuable information, other teachers by name (Mr. Riley, Ms. Fowler, Dr. Williams) are horrible. Not that you can't get a good grade, but they are typical lazy teachers that hang bad grades above students heads to help increase their pass rates by having bad students drop out. Specifically, Mr. Riley uses a flipped classroom idea, where students watch podcasts at home, and then do homework in class. Great idea, but what happens is that Mr. Riley records the podcasts, and then babysits the class -- if you ask him a question he will not answer it unless you have asked (bothered) all of the other students for help, and will usually just tell you that he covered your topic in the podcast. While the teachers are bad, I can say the school did prepare me for college, and I had a good time."
