"This school is both good and bad, and here's why it got 2 stars in my book. To start off, the teachers at Astronaut can be hit or miss. Some really do care about the students and their academic progress, however, some don't at all. I know teachers that use lots of curse words, every class. I could see maybe slipping up, but intentionally knowing that you're cussing in front of your students shouldn't be permitted. Don't get me wrong, I have had a few great teachers. Secondly, the administration at this school only supports the sports teams. Wonder why all the reviews are raving about sports? Because that's all they care about! With a wonderful choir program that I got to take part in, which gets straight superiors, performs at Disney, and more, administrators and many teachers don't fund the program, or even come to the concerts. I find this to be such a shame. Also, only Spanish and German are offered here, which I think is another disgrace. "Popular" kids get to dress and act however they want, while other kids get dress coded constantly. Overall, I think this school is a small town school, and it is extremely unfair, and needs to rethink it's priorities."
"Initially, I was very pleased with this school. But over time, I could see that several of the teachers that my child had were unqualified - one seemed to have a mental disturbance, one had a head injury from playing college football, and others just didn't care. Yes, there were some AWESOME teachers there, but pifitully few. My other child had some learning issues, but instead of helping him, he was given "bonus points" so that he wouldn't fail the class (the teacher told me this herself, "Some of the kids are slower than the others and I don't want them to feel bad, so I give 'bonus points' so that they don't fail and feel bad about themselves."). As a result, my child stopped trying, as she knew that she would pass no matter what she did, thanks to the extra points, and sure enough, rather than the "F" she deserved, she ended up with a "B". I assume the teacher did this to get her Merit Increase...? My biggest complaint about this school is the quality of teachers. So many don't care. Several only teach so that they can coach (and it shows). I initially would have highly recommended this school, but over the years, I can see its true colors and would not recommend it."
"My twins attend this school and I am very happy with the advanced courses that are offered. They got into every class that they wanted this year except Algebra II and driver's education class which can be taken for free online from Florida Virtual School. The academic adviser is helpful and the staff are very friendly. Some of the teachers even send email reminders for tests and assignments that are due soon. There aren't large expenses like for field trips for our four children that we encountered in the lower grades. The free bus service is great and my children have been safe riding to and from school. I think this school should have gotten at least an 8 out of 10 score. With sufficient effort, I think most students can excel at this school and be prepared for college."
"I graduated here best school ever! GREAT sports, academics, and social groups. Great interactive programs with the kids. 5 star school. 'A' school."
"This a great school with a very exellent sports program."
