"The teachers and principal are passionate and the facility is unequaled. However my child is now also attending CU and is struggling. This is baffling as she has always taken the most challenging courses and graduated BMHS summa cum laude. I don't know if she was unprepared for college because of BMHS or if it is just the culture at CU of "weeding out" but it definately is a shock when your child goes from mostly A's to mostly C's and the hispanic population definately creates a problem in teaching all kids at the same level."

"As a student who graduated from Battle Mountain a few years ago, and just recently graduated from a prestigious college, I would just like to say that this high school was wonderful. It is what you make it. They have excellent course offerings, volunteer opportunities, athletic organizations, and a very well involved group of instructors. It's up to the student and parents to see this and take full advantage of the offerings."

"The school is safe and has an outstanding principal. The academics are not at a state level. My oldest son graduated last year and now attends the Unversity of Colorado. After only 6 weeks at college he stated that he was not prepared for history or chemistry. He also said 'there is not a day that I say that I am glad that I went to BMHS.' He had taken high level courses and was in the top 25% of his class. Thanks to CU being quick to respond they saw a deficiency and enabled him to change a chemistry course to get him up to speed. My son said that the other Colorado students were better prepared than he was. The school district is catering to Hispanic dual language programs to accomadtate the overwhelming illegal population which 'teaches down' versus bringing the bottom student up."

"The top students at Battle Mt. are prepared to succeed at top level universities. The bottom of the socioeconomic spectrum are also well taken care of. The middle of the pack can get lost. Students must get involved in an extracurricular activity if they want to have a great experience."
