"University Prep is the best middle school/ high school in the High Desert. They hold their students to a high standard and if they don't make it they are assigned back to the District Middle School they belong to. The Academic Program is rigorous and exacting. As their motto says, "Excellence is expected!" Besides that, the school is a safe haven. Nobody is marginalized or ostracized because of their ideas, opinions, or thoughts. They can be themselves without fear of judgement. It is an ideal school to nurture individuality in the children. I am so happy that my daughter goes to this school - she is thriving and everyday she looks forward to going. I highly recommend this school for those who transfer to the High Desert. The only drawback is acceptance is done by lottery and then the kids are evaluated based on their conduct and discipline track record as well as their grades. Really, really tough school to get into."

"I think that if you are looking for a high quality education that challenges you greatly, you should attend this school. I am a former student of seventh grade and some of eighth grade, and I can say that the teachers really do care about you and the classes are challenging. With all the skills you developed from the hard work of the academic challenges here, you practice those skills even more and you will use all of those skills in the future for college. It may seem that from a student's point of view, the teacjers can be cruel and embarass you in front of the class, but if you would attend an ordinary middle or high school, most teachers are just waiting for their paychecks to arrive. It appears that at this school, teachers are waiting for their students' college acceptance letters to arrive when they are in the twelfth grade at this school. I think the classes and academics here are great. The athletic programs here challenge you just as much as the academics. This is a great school! If you are looking for something challenging that will lead you to success and a bright future, you should come to University Preparatory School."

"I have a feeling that students who made a bad comment on this site were people who got kicked out because they were not able to achieve the GPA requirement. Few days ago, I spoke to one of the parents whose kid is still there. She said that half of her kid's class were kicked out because they couldn't handle the rigorous training. My kid just got accepted and 'am looking forward bringing my kid in there everyday! :)"

"The teachers are great, so are most of the administration. But the school has a lot of discrimination, and it s not racial or sexist. The school is run by the popular kids, I know that sounds really stupid, but its true. I attend U.P. since 7th grade, and if your popular you ll get away with a lot, but if you re not good luck. There is also the lack of extracurricular classes. To get into a good college you need to be more than grades, and at U.P. thats all you ll be is grades. There also might not be fights, but kids get bullied verbally and nothing usually gets done about it. The school is great from the outside, but from a students point of view I hated it, being at U.P. sucked, and I am a great student. I loved the teachers and most of the students, but this school gets put last with funding and the staff has to work with basically nothing. U.P. is no better than Victor High or Apple High, its a normal high school, but the kids hide the bad things they do so much better. U.P. is not exempt from sex in the bathrooms, or getting high there either. U.P. has bad kids too, none of them get caught though. So don t send your kid here just because its safer, because it s really not."
