"We had a disastrous experience at LMS and regret having sent our child there. As previously noted, the good reviews are mostly from staff who have kids here, and notice that some reviews read like ad copy. (2/3 of our kid s teachers had kids currently at LMS.) Surely some have a fine experience, but in our class students left in droves especially boys and then we found out it happens year after year. There s a steep drop in enrollment after Children s House, and another after 1st grade; relatively few non-staff families stay all the way through. The administration routinely refuses to address parent concerns, even when several raise the same issue. Instead, they divide parents, blame the kids, and bury the problem. When we visited other private schools, we saw many families who had left LMS or were in the process of it. Notably, we talked to our pediatrician, an educational consultant, and a school psychologist and discovered that LMS s problems are an open secret within the professional community. We believe in Montessori and so wanted LMS to be what it claims, but it just isn t in fact, it harmed our child and our child s whole perception of school. If we could undo it, we would."

"Lexington Montessori School is truly an amazing place. Because of LMS, my three children have become confident learners who love going to school - even my middle schooler! Teachers create a safe, nurturing environment where my kids feel respected, are willing to try new things and are appropriately challenged. LMS is a unique community of teachers and administrators who are continually looking for ways to improve the learning experiences of my children. My 3 children have very different learning styles and teachers are able to adapt their approach either through use of montessori materials or other more traditional methods to meet their needs. I can't say enough good things about our experiences here and the community we are lucky to be part of."

"Lexington Montessori School is a truly wonderful school! Having had two children attend from pre-k through 8th grade, I can attest to the school s excellent academics and its emphasis on educating the whole child. In the hands of caring teachers, my children blossomed intellectually, emotionally, and socially. They each graduated with a strong sense of self, an appreciation for their individual learning styles, and an understanding of their place in this vibrant community. I am grateful to this school for 1) its emphasis on critical thinking and creative problem-solving. My children attend a rigorous private high school where their teachers have noted their analytical and problem-solving skills. 2) its diversity. 48% of the students at LMS are children of color and 40% of the teachers are people of color. 3) its focus on sustainability. LMS taught my kids about stewardship and the impact their actions can have on the planet and others. 4) its strong sense of community. At LMS my children learned tolerance and respect for others. They learned to collaborate and to resolve conflicts. They have formed deep and lasting connections with classmates and teachers."

"Most of the reviews on this site are from a prior administration and staffing. The current teachers are hit or miss at both Children's House (preschool) and Lower El. I can't comment on Upper El or Middle School as my children have not attened those. What we have noticed is that you either have an extraordinarily good or poor experience at the school. The parents with the right classrooms and teachers stay. Those who get the poor teachers leave. There is a lack of oversight from the administration to make the classroom experience more uniform. Also, they lack elements of a classic Montessori program. Even in the excellent classrooms, it feels much more like a private school that happens to use Montessori materials. If you are looking for a classic AMI Montessori school, this is not the place for you. Like most small private schools, the social group is also small. You have to be willing to have your children play with kids a year or two younger or older to make this school work as my kids never had more than 2 kids their age and gender in their classroom. Lastly, in most classrooms parents are no longer encouraged to be involved during the school day."

"We have had two children go through the 3 year old to Kindergarten classrooms and have been nothing but immensely pleased. The teachers and leadership are open and responsive to input from parents, and the quality of the education in the classrooms is terrific. Parents are repeatedly invited and encouraged to be involved in both classroom activities and "outside the classroom" activities. Activities are very child-specific and targeted at each child's appropriate level of learning so that the child isn't bored or frustrated."
