"Academics are weak and not because of the curriculum choices but because there are too many mediocre teachers at the school delivering uninspired instruction. Heads of all 3 divisions need to start looking inward at teaching quality and invest some time and money into bettering practices. I hope the school will also start listening to parent feedback and start letting some of the dead weight go! There are so many quality teachers looking for positions and too many mediocre to poor Westtown teachers who were hired and were either not very strong to begin with or have since burned out. That is the beauty of an independent school - no tenure. Set yourself apart from the area publics by making certain every student is afforded quality instruction every single year. Otherwise, it is just not worth the money with T/E, Radnor, and UCFSD districts nearby. Westtown should be more than just a pretty campus."

"I recently toured this school and thought to myself, what an awesome school to put my above average child in too challenge him. First, let me start off by saying my child is 4 years old and very intellegent. He is involved with the chester county intermediate unit because he is gifted, his IQ is 133. The intermediate unit helps with his behavior and intellegence because most of the time when you have a gifted child they act out when they aren't challenged, hence why I was looking into getting him into a good private school. The person in the class room wouldnt follow him to kindergarten. After touring the school the women we toured with called me and basically told me that they wouldn't be able to get my son into the school because they couldn't meet his needs. I guess this school doesn't deal with gifted children and that's a shame; for the 20k they charge to go there you would think they would want gifted kids. I kinda feel discriminated on because I have smart child. After touring I had decided to send him there for high school but not elementary but my thoughts have changed now and I will be seeking different schools for sons future education."

"Our child had a wonderful experience at the Middle School. Not so at the Upper School. The teachers at the Upper School vary from excellent to mediocre. The school is not committed to helping students with learning differences or challenges. The most frequent suggestion we received from the people in charge of learing resources, who were never there for more than a year, was to "hire a tutor." If your child needs any type of learning support, you would be doing him or her a favor to look elsewhere."

"Our children were at Westtown for eight years, and we experienced all three divisions before we moved them to our public high school. Over those eight years we noticed the Westtown program becoming less and less challenging as more students were admitted who found the work too hard. Trying to boost self esteem by making school easy is not what we want for our kids, but that s what s happening at Westtown. Signs of increased bullying appeared among students, and a lot of good teachers are leaving. Our kids seemed to learn more and were excited about classes in public school, they were able to choose from a wider variety of classes, and had several much stronger teachers than they had at Westtown. They still maintain great friendships with kids from Westtown, but as far as their education there, with a few exceptions for special projects, we were generally disappointed."

"My wife and I live north of Boston and looked at many schools nearby for our kids. When a teacher at our daughters primary school recommended Westtown, we hesitated, not wanting to send our daughter away. Our son had gone away somewhere else and not done well. We all liked Westtown as soon as we saw it. When our daughter was there for a term, she had fallen in love with the nurturing ethos of the school and the stimulating teaching. The school helped us with the cost of boarding and our daughter did better and better over the three years she was there....getting into her first choice for college. We are not Quaker and are convinced the Quaker heritage and values of Westtown are what make it so special. Of all the schools we've experienced in our family, Westtown is our favorite by far."
