"The best teachers, staff, students! Teachers are very involved. There are lots of afterschool clubs. Very community minded."

"I graduated from WIHS recently, and feel that the education from this school has helped me a great deal in college. Unless you are in AP and honors classes, I feel that WIHS really is not all that great. Since I happened to only be in honors and AP courses I came across some of the best and most influential teachers that have changed my life forever. These teachers were not only my academic instructors, but life mentors as well. Besides that academic portion of WIHS, the athletics are great except for the fact that it becomes extremely political. The student population of WIHS turns into a typical high school scene where cliques govern the entire school. For a social environment I would say that WIHS is not the greatest hs experience."

"I am a graduate of West Islip High School. Although I do not believe it is as strong as it used to be, it is still an excellent school district with much to offer its students in the way of academics (including AP), athletics (especially lacrosse and football), music, and myriad clubs. The building is nice and spacious, including a pool. There are many outstanding teachers across all subjects. What it lacks, however, is diversity. Additionally, the special education population is very small and so is the program (although I know of a few excellent, hard-working special ed teachers there). Also, it seems to have fewer discipline problems than other schools of comparable size."

"Three of my kids have gone to West Islip HS and my 4th is a freshman there now. Great school, great academics, outstanding sports and music programs. Olympic size pool & planetarium make this school unique. I find that the kids here are pretty disciplined & you don't see the problems that many city schools face. Very college-oriented community."

"This school offers people the ability to have a wonderful educational experience. The only thing is that your child needs to take on the challege of having a good educational experience."
