"Currently, school hasn't ended yet, so I'm still a freshman. I've enjoyed my stay here so far, and I've made many friends."

"It is an amazing school in terms of resources for students and college preparedness, but as a result it can be mentally taxing for students that do not handle stress well. I would like to see more mental health initiatives taken by the administration and staff to support all students, even those that do not show signs of struggle."

"Bergen County Academies has an abundance of resources that are easily accessible by all students on campus. The teachers and staff truly care for the students and look out for them. The community will feel like family during your high school years."

"One of the best public high schools in the country, BCA is located in Hackensack, Bergen County's county seat. BCA is divided into academies of concentrations which add additional specialized study ranging from business to medical to arts and even culinary. The h.s. boasts a large number of Ph.D teachers and access to resources such as Scanning and Transmission electron microscopes, independent research opportunities, hands-on video production and editing, musical productions with a Broadway choreographer, culinary courses taught by two Culinary Institute of America graduate chefs, a stock market room with real-time ticker and trading simulation software, etc. School culture is high-pressure, but generally extremely supportive academically and personally. Those children who were the "weird" ones in middle school find friends and find themselves here. College isn't as hard as it seems once you go through this school."

"Students regularly win national competitions, and a whopping percentage place into top colleges. With such a high reputation comes much pressure, resulting in a toxic culture. Even the smartest students compromise their integrity for a higher GPA, obtaining past exams or "borrowing" homework. The school draws in the students with the most potential, but the culture ironically hinders the potential of many students who never learn how to become self-sufficient or to pursue something out of genuine interest rather than desperation to survive. Much of a student's coursework is concentrated in an "academy" like business or music for their entire high school career. While this is fine for those who love their academy, many 14-year-olds often have no clue what they are getting themselves into but are forced to commit to an academy of choice at the time of application. The school could benefit from more flexibility, starting with allowing students to change academies after they enroll."
