"Last year we had "smart lunch". This was an extra 1 hour for lunch to allow students to receive extra time and/or any needed, special attention with the teachers. This was especially good for the student athletes as I am one. This paragraph will also answer what I would like to see changed. Myself and a lot of others would like for this "smart lunch" to return."

"I currently am a rising senior at North Gaston and there are several problems that should be fixed. First of all the bullying issues. The school is not focused on making every group of students feel important. They lack appreciation for the arts and academic achievements. There is a lot of special treatment that you can observe from being in a classroom. The preppy and popular people always have gotten special treatment from teachers and staff. Another great issue is the drug problem there are lots of kids that cut class too. I know that we need better food because some kids only get to eat at school and have to choose whether to eat something disgusting and unsanitary or not to. Another serious issue is abuse of power in teachers. Some teachers use their job title to degrade, embarrass and dictate to kids. I don't think this will encourage students to graduate. There's several more issues this is just a surface scratch."

"My experience at this school was fine, but that being said, there are many changes to be made in terms of the school "culture" and the exclusivity of certain opportunities, especially as it pertains to certain clubs and organizations. There is a lack of preparedness for students who are college bound in terms of SAT and ACT prep, or general readiness. Despite the creation of SMARTLunch, designed to help academic success, there is little instructional time used because little can be done within a 30 minute time-frame. Finally, you must be prepared for a lack of diversity within classrooms, which is not only limited to race, but also, socio-political views."

"Like every high school, it depends on personal experience. There is an exciting program called "Smart Lunch". This gives students and hour for lunch and gives them time to visit classes that they are struggling in. Since the high school is in North Carolina, there are little resources available. Old books that are outdated and not enough chrome books for the classes that need them."
