"Basic academics such as math, science, English and history are all offered at varied levels, dependent upon which academic path you chose. At the beginning of the school year you can choose to change your classes but you have to be quick so you can succeed in your classes. AP classes are offered and college classes are offered either free or very reduced prices. Most teachers encourage you to contact them if you are failing or discouraged about their classes. We have nine week grading periods but we also have mid terms so we can tell half way through how good or bad we are doing. Parents are encouraged to pick up our mid terms and all teachers are available for parent teacher conferences on those days. Teachers encourage parents to contact them through messaging, school web sites and appts throughout the academic year."

"We are a very diverse student population. We come from varied backgrounds financially, religiously and politically. We have many cliques but everybody fits somewhere. It doesn't matter what our sexual orientation is because you are accepted for who you are as a person."

"Even though we are a small school we have a lot of different classes offered to us. Every senior has a scholarship of some kind by graduation. Our principal makes sure of this. We are offered free classes from our local college so we can get ahead on our basics before we go to our college of choice. Our guidance counselor finds many and varied scholarships for us to apply to. Our principal's goal is to have each and every student college ready when they graduate. He starts this when we enter our freshman year and we are always reminded each and every year what we need to achieve this goal. If a student is in need of food, clothing, furniture or even money to go on our trips we take with the school; our principal makes sure somehow to get what is needed. We are offered many trips, such as, Europe trips with the band, Amsterdam and Paris trips with English. Freshman year is Gatlinburg, TN trip, sophomore is Chicago, Junior is New York and then our senior year is Bahamas cruise. Each extracurricular activity has their own special quirks. We have of course, football, baseball, softball, tennis, golfing, volley ball, basketball, cheerleading, bass fishing, soccer, academic teams, chorus, speech and debate team, national honors society, pep club, student technology leadership program STLP, theatre, chess club, art club and band. All of these are either Co Ed, such as we have a girl football player and a boy cheerleader, or we have both boy and girl teams. So even though we are a small school of about 300 students, we have many and varied opportunities both educational and extracurricular. We have very supportive parents, teachers, alumni and our principal. I am very happy I have gone to this school and I will be very proud to say I graduated from Hazard High School."

"Most of my teachers are well informed about their subjects of choice. My band teachers especially go above and beyond what is expected of them. They are always there when we need them and are easily reachable outside the classroom. Our principal is very involved in everything we do. He believes in discipline but is also there whenever a student is in need. He believes and highly encourages every student to be involved in extracurricular activities or to at least have a job. We are a small but proud school!!"

"The classes they offer here are hard sometimes, but that is to be expected. Any school you attend it is going to be challenging. Just make sure to reach out for help on a homework assignment and take advantage of tutoring."
