"DeKalb High School is an okay high school. It was built about six years ago so the building is fairly new. The student body is very active and almost every student belongs to a sport or an organization. Many would say that this is an amazing school but as a minority who is an Honors and AP student, I would have to disagree. The curriculum gap is impossibly unfair. AP and Honors classes are hard but regular classes are taught like they're meant for middle school kids. Teachers treat regular students like they're idiots and make everything easy for them. It is hard to find teachers at this school that really care about anything other than getting their check at the end of the month. The administration is distant and strict. They crack down harshly on anyone who steps out of line and try to appease white parents and students more than anything else. If these things could change it would be a better school"

"Being in a school were you know there are people who studied for years just so they could give you one of the best teachings to help you find your greatness and your weakness. To help you know that sometimes life can be hard, and you want to give up there are other options you could take to bring you back up. Because if you do not stand up you will be the one to blame for holding on your dreams and not letting the world see how great you are."

"The school is trying to improve and make their classes better. I think it would be extremely beneficial to see more AP or advance classes."

"Life at DeKalb is okay, it's not great but it's okay. The academics are fine, there are a lot of good teachers and there are some bad ones. I have found that the Music and sports programs are grate! Both programs excel, although the music/theatre program is overlooked at times."

"Throughout my academy career at DeKalb High School, I have had a different experience than most. I am chronically ill and miss a lot of school. Due to my illnesses, I need a little bit of extra support from both my teachers and the guidance staff. Overall, my tests have been pretty amazing, with the exception exception a few bad teachers. I get to participate in one of the best marching bands in the state because of the support I have recieved from the staff. DHS is a pretty great school most days and I'm proud to be a barb!"
