"If moving to East Texas, Rusk is one of the more favored school options in the area. Teachers care about the students and are willing to put in a bit of extra time to see that students are academically and emotionally healthy. I would say that Rusk is the best for the average student. The mindset in Rusk doesn't seem to cater to the students that really want to step out of the mainstream ways of thinking. Although there is diversity, there is little multiculturalism and even forms of prejudical thinking. A global way of experiencing the world does not seem to be a concern. There are some in the school leadership that are 'my way or the highway.' There are an unfortunate number of cliques, and parent politics can put constraints on teachers and programs. However, students will receive a decent academic education."

"The academics here are above average, the students are fairly concentrated on their school work. Alot of students get into schools such as Baylor and Rice, and competitive academics regularly head to the regional and state competitions. The teachers who care will do everything in their power to make sure you know your stuff"

"There really isn't a whole lot of diversity here, being that it's in a small town out in the backwoods. The students are, depending on what social group you're in, are extremely tolerant in most respects. Over all diversity is not very good"

"Though the education here is above average, most everything else is pretty below average. It's a small school so there isn't much to do, when it comes to Athletics, only the Baseball/Softball program is any good. Football is consistently bad (not having a winning record since 2010, and having lost homecoming for 7 years in a row). Basketball is decent, Volleyball is competitive enough. The music program is superb, having an 18 year long sweepstakes (1's in both marching and concert competitions) and consistently placing student musicians in the all-region band and sending solo-musicians to the state solo competition. Competitive academics is also consistently sending students to the state competitions. Being a small town school, there are a lot of "rednecks", and a plethora of bullies."

"The Teachers here are excellent, for the most part. There will always be those teachers that don't really teach, and there are a couple of those hear. But for the most part they really try to teach you and will help you if you're struggling."
