"I believe that Stephenville High School is an amazing school. I'm currently a Senior and have gone there all four years. Education wise, the teachers are excellent, and there are many classes offered such as pre-ap and dual-credit. It's a smaller school, but very easy to get around. There are currently 283 students in my graduating class. The athletics program is great as well, and the cheerleaders put on pep-rallys for the football team, which are extremely fun. I personally feel very safe at this school, and the students are very kind and easy to get along with. I love it here, and I would agree that other students do as well."

"This was a great school that allowed me to excell in academics and propell me to be ready for college. This school is very big on sports which can be an advantage or disadvantage to some. The coaches there are great to you if you do play, but really dont bother to deal with you if you don't. However, there is something for everyone here. The clubs are very well operated and can help you meet people that have the same interests as you do. The academics here are excellent with teachers that are willing to help and that care. They also offer many duel credit classes that can help you get ahead and sve money."

"The academics that are offered are generally excellent. Spanish is offered beyond basic levels (students can take all the way up to AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language) and the people that take these classes generally do very well on the AP exams. In addition to strong Spanish teachers and a Spanish department, the Science department is very strong. AP Biology, AP Physics, AP Anatomy, AP Chemistry, and many more classes are offered as options and the teachers are very strong. Finally, the Math department is also very strong, with Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus offered, and most students doing very well on the AP exam."

"This is one of the serious challenges of Stephenville High School. Teachers are mostly white, and do not accurately represent the proportion of Hispanics in the school. This presents a problem because teachers sometimes treat Hispanic students differently - although often times they are not aware that they are doing this. Equally serious is the lack of interaction between Hispanic and white students. White students do not hang out with Hispanic students and Hispanic students do not hang out with white students. White students are generally in the honors classes while the Hispanic classes are put on the "regular" classes. Racism against Hispanic students is also very serious. I witnessed one student tell a Hispanic student "I own you because I am American". While Hispanic students are able to get an excellent education, Stephenville High School places significant roadblocks to making this a reality."

"There are two groups of teachers. One group of teachers is very invested in the success of students while the other is not so much. The Science, Math, and Spanish departments are particularly strong - particularly recently, and teachers in these department actively encourage their students to go beyond and above (go to the best universities). AP Spanish Literature, AP Spanish, Calculus, Anatomy, and AP Physics and Biology are some example of excellent courses that are offered. These honors classes tend to be very well taught and prepare students for any university. Some of these teachers stay in touch beyond graduation. This aspect of the education was excellent and prepared me for college. The school also has a very strong athletic department and excellent administration (Vice-Principals, Principal, and Superintendent). However, there are a few aspects that stop me from giving this school an excellent score. 1) There are a few teachers that do not truly understand all of the paths that are available to students and sometimes end up discouraging high achieving students. 2) There are very strong prejudices against Hispanic and gay students (often on the line of sexism and racism) and there is a fairly strong segregation between Hispanics and whites - with a few teachers sometimes having unconscious bias against Hispanic students. Some students also actively discriminate against Hispanic and gays. 4) There is a very strong presence of the church - which in an of itself is not a bad thing - but students who are not religious are often bullied and religion is sometimes brought to events where it is not particularly appropriate (and where not all churches are invited to attend). If these issues were addressed however, the school would have remarkably high marks and would consistently be sending students to the top universities in the country. In short, great school with areas of improvement and very high potential."
