"DeBakey is really no ordinary High School. It's a place where there are no sports, no fun activities, and no incentives to develop a school spirit. I would say that DeBakey's best aspect is its teachers. They are passionate, dedicated and admirable for their resilience in putting up with the horrendous administration. The majority are well-educated and actually knowledgeable in their field, however, there are some few that just sit on their bums and fabricate grades which is a bit frustrating. The student body is a whole other thing as well. The best way I could describe it is if you combined all the top 10% students from the other high schools in the district and put them into one school. The students are highly competitive and not very socially adept. The food here is decent and the hospital rotations make up for the depressing atmosphere and overabundant amount of homework. Lastly, the administration is absolutely useless, rude, ignorant, and arrogant."

"Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions is a great college-preparatory school for anyone that likes a challenge. It provides many different pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement courses, mainly for upperclassmen. The new facility is filled with life and interesting students."

"Over the four years I've attended, I've been mentally stretched and molded and come out more professional than before. Although I'm not going into the medical field, this school still prepares any student for a professional career and gives them a strong resume to go off to college with."

"It is a challenging school, but it prepares you for college. You will receive a lot of work, but it teaches you how to have time management skills."

"I personally believe at DeBakey, there are things you must struggle at or even fail in order to succeed. There will be a lot of sacrifices made and stress from AP courses. However, this school is truly a gift towards people who want to pursue in the medical field/STEM and for those who keep persevering. You can't depend on counselors or teachers. Also, don't be afraid to reach out for help when you are struggling because you have the resources and teachers to guide you. Otherwise, it is not hard to fall behind quickly, and catching up is very difficult. If you feel stressed, it's ok. Every intelligent person goes through this. Think of it as a requirement instead of a sob story. Don't survive, thrive. I hope for those who get accepted into this school, will learn to appreciate what they have and maybe strive for a little more because everyone has potential. Education helps you realize it, and hopefully, compels or inspires you onward."
