"My experience with this school was outstanding. A big part of going to this school is learning how to effectively communicate with people. You learn principles of teamwork and problem solving in groups. Leadership skills are built upon heavily. This school is wonderful for experiential learning. Students have access to field trips all around the western Unites States. Snowboarding/skiing, mountain biking, rafting/kayaking, and community service are some of the options. SWOS also encourages high school students to enroll in college courses, and during senior year at SWOS there's an entire class about filling out FAFSA and how to take steps to becoming a college student. The student body at SWOS is small but incredibly diverse, and the instructors are all genuinely dedicated to seeing their students succeed. At SWOS, students learn life skills and are given the necessary experiences and tools to become life long learners and effective communicators in both chaotic and calm situations."

"Southwest Open School, and experimental experiential outdoor learning opportunity, is hands down the best highschool I have heard of; though in recent years it has begun to decline with the advent of a new director and loss of funding."
