"It was a very tough school but it taught me discipline, accountability, respect for my own goals and it challenge me everyday to do my best. I am responsible for my own success and achievements."

"It is a great school for people who thrive in a small school setting. It has three buildings so it is hard to get lost. Shoutout to the janitors! the bathrooms are clean with no broken mirrors and graffiti. The challenging classes force you to time manage and actually earn your A. I would like more AP classes like AP Statistics."

"The school is very rigorous. The rigor either turns the student away from the school or, in most cases, the students learn and grow from what they learned from the school. Many of the teachers are there for the student and have after school tutoring. Many of them realize the hard work they do and not punish the student for it. As of my time during the Class of 2017, I really feel the counselors helped the students handle all our college situations. High school was great having the counselors and the teachers getting me through it. The only problem is that a few teachers have their bias, so always stay on their good side (pay attention in class, look like you are working hard, actually work hard, and always be polite). Also PE is tough only because they care."

"Hawthorne Math and Science Academy is a very hands-on school in which prepares its students for a successful future. Although the high school does not offer many creative courses, its academic courses prepare the students for their careers. HMSA has high expectations for all students and provides endless opportunities to grow and develop as learners. Because HMSA is a positive learning environment, the students feel safe and comfortable to be themselves and express themselves in an appropriate manner. Students express themselves through writing, art, or any other skill they believe represents them. My experience at HMSA was filled with great friendships, stressful nights, and fun activities. Now that I am about a month away from graduating, I've reflected on the past few years at HMSA. I am proud of myself and grateful to the school and the administrators whom have helped me get where I am now."

"HMSA has provided me with some of the best years of my life, academically. It is so easy for student to get involved in the school and community. It is rare to hear that bullying has occurred in this school; all the students respect each other. The school challenges students but prepares them for college; there isn't time to mess around and procrasicnate if you want to graduate from this school. I do wish there were more sports and clubs."
