"Summit Shasta is not what it promises to be, mostly because of severe underfunding. Shasta is so underfunded, we don't even have our own campus after four years of existence- we currently reside in portables. Summit Public Schools not only gives us very little money, they also take away a lot of our teachers every year. Last year alone, we lost five of our subject teachers. In result, we have a lot of first-year, inexperienced teachers who do not know how to control a classroom. Shasta is chaotic, underfunded, mismanaged, and does not live up to its promises. "Summit Shasta is great for people who are self-directed. If you're the type of student who feels self-directed, this school is great because it lets you go ahead. They even let me skip a year of math. We don't have the best resources since we don't get a lot of funding (charter schools have a bad reputation for "stealing tax dollars", even though we do better than most schools on standardised tests). For the same reason, our clubs aren't the best; most are entirely student-run. The current campus is just portable buildings on a concrete lot. We're supposed to have an official campus soon, but it hasn't been constructed yet. Sometimes the more rowdy students break stuff. But what we do have is a great focus on getting into college. We even have classes dedicated to college readiness. I've also had some of the most amazing and passionate teachers."

"Shasta uses personalized learning which allows students to go through the curriculum at their own pace with the help of digital resources. When we're assigned projects, we're allowed to revise them even weeks after the deadline, and teachers only take the highest scores from the year. This system's great for many students. A lot of them manage to finish a year's worth of work in about three months, so that they can focus more on improving their skills as writers, critical thinkers, etc. However, this only applies to students who are motivated and self-directed. There are lots of students who constantly need to be reminded to do their work, and they often take advantage of the school's lax grading system and lack of discipline. This really should be improved, but overall Shasta's given me a great opportunity to improve myself at a schedule that's right for me. I highly recommend it to anyone who's a hard-working self-directed student."

"The emphasis on college readiness has immensely helped me in my college applications and general skills I will need in college, such as the ability to deliver a persuasive speech and the ability to seamlessly integrate sources into my writing. The faculty are understanding and helpful, and the students are supportive of one another. I find it unbelievable that Shasta pays for students to take certain AP tests as a way to encourage them to try and test out of unnecessary, monotonous college classes. The lengths that Shasta will go to in order to prepare students for college are unparalleled by any surrounding schools. I would say the only thing that frustrates me about Shasta is that the school atmosphere is dynamic, constantly changing from year to year. However, this is to be expected since Shasta is only in its fourth year, so hopefully things will settle down in the near future."

"I like that they focus on academics most, and have a lot of connections to college. Also the school is very diverse and I really like the teachers. The food however is pretty terrible. Also our campus is sub-par at best."
