"In eighth grade, I was a student at Palmetto Scholars Academy during its first year. I only stayed for the one year because everything was still very disorganized. Most of the teachers were fantastic, but a couple were an extreme disappointment. There was no athletic or art department. It was all still very new. It needed time to grow and improve. If I had been in sixth grade at the time, I would have stayed because it was a great and challenging little community for middle school students, but I needed to attend a more established high school. I wanted a place that offered honors courses, AP courses, competitive sports teams, and an art department. Since leaving, I have heard pretty good things from students who stayed (especially younger ones). It seems to have steadily improved over the years, which is great!"

"I have been at PSA for just over 4 years and have loved my experiences there. However, the school does not deal with teachers giving preferential treatment to students they like or deal with bullying at all."

"They pack on the work and high expectations as soon as you get there, even as a 6th grader. It's not a bad thing by itself, but as a student it is very hard to balance the work load from classes with extracurricular activities. The teachers often infantilize the students, despite them being gifted, but expect them to act like adults. Some of the teachers try their best to relate to the kids and understand that they are just children. There is a LEAP day class option but it isn't the greatest selection. There are no clubs. Because it is such a small school, administrators often pick favorites, who get to take whatever classes they want and get around rules. The only thing that I could rate with a perfect score is safety. There are of course a few students who have views that make me feel unsafe, but I have never been physically assaulted. I haven't tasted much of the food they offer."
