"I actually barely noticed the parents at the middle school but from what I have seen they've been doing a good job helping around and organizing evens such as pep rallies and clubs"

"Sports were always great, emphasis on health and student well-being. No-pass, no-play was an enforced rule for more of the magnet kids than the vanguard ones (classes were easy enough). Volleyball team always did well, had a ton of fun and was a great community for students to interact. Practices were held in the morning for upperclassmen, 8th grade, and after school for 7th grade and was mandatory, running laps and wall jumps, taught me a lot about the sport and great coaching to be better. Basketball was a similar experience, a lot of camaraderie and team building, played some rough teams, Hogg, Burbank, rougher schools that rendered higher security but were really good at basketball."

"The surrounding neighborhood is very different then the students who attend; students are split by vanguard and regular on-level learning. There's very little mixing, a lot of cliques and a pretty typical middle school awkward experience. Students in vanguard are expected to do well and achieve good grades with little effort, moving on to the most difficult and challenging (not to mention highest preforming) high school in the city, DeBakey HSHP, I was not prepared for challenge the best way possible. Many students can achieve high scores, but may not be prepared for actual rigor. The on-level, regular learners were rowdy and had fights or needed officer assistance regularly, pretty ghetto. Vanguard was kept separate, but always saw the interactions. Generally okay, vanguard kids will get good grades, but not really a challenge and a lot of outside influences."
