Dan is a life long resident of Columbus and Bartholomew County. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1970. Laura grew up in Chesterfield, Indiana and graduated from Highland High School in Madison County in 1971. They met while attending college. Upon their return to Columbus, they were married and started their family. Dan was a former detective with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, and continues to serve as a member of the Sheriff's Merit Board. He was also a former Head Coach of the Columbus East High School Men's Golf Team. After leaving law enforcement in 1976, Dan returned to the family business that was founded by his father and mother in 1957. Laura had been working in the famliy business since 1973. As co-owners and corporate officers, Dan and Laura operated Gary Davis Music Makers' Store Inc. until they retired from the musical instrument business in December, 2002. They very much enjoy working together, camping and traveling. They both have recently taken up motorcycle riding. "Laura and I feel extremely fortunate to have raised our three sons Brad, Christopher and Aaron in this wonderful community. Our daughters-in-law, Julie and Sara also grew up locally and we look forward to our grandchildren, Maggie, Cassidy, Reid and Eli growing up here as well.
