In addition to all of the above, this property is a registered (#38BR1373) archeological site. The following excerpt is from a letter from Lamar Nelson regarding the significance of the archaeological site located on the property: ''The property owned by Lorene Fisher in Barnwell County 147 Horse Shoe Trail Road, is one of the most important archaeological sites in South Carolina. First discovered by Lorene during yard work 16 years ago where she found prehistoric artifacts 5000 years old. During years of historical research, and working on archaeological sites, immediately she recognized the importance of the property. Finding additional artifacts, she brought them to the Greer Museum where I was identifying artifacts for the public. After looking at the material she brought, and discussing the property it was without question that she had a very important site. We discussed a visit, and soon afterward I went to see for myself what the site looked like. At first glance it was obvious that the site had been used for thousands of years. The ground was covered in chert flakes indicating prehistoric people had been creating tools. Lorene showed me some of the additional artifacts she had discovered, and we toured the property. I placed a 1x1 meeter excavation unit on the lower side of the property, excavating to 50 cm below surface. Each level produced artifacts form Mississippian through the archaic period. During the years since, other excavation units have been placed in different locations where artifacts have been located. The site does have paleo artifacts, where future work should be done to recover the extremely important material. The work previously done only scratches the surface of what may lie below the surface. The creek joining the property would have been a highway for people to visit the site regularly. I believe that the chert on the property, came from the famous Topper Site located a few miles away, and was most likely transported up the creek from that site. The potential for the property could have a major impact on the history of the state. The site listed as 38BR1373 in the state archaeological files, indicates its importance. Several archaeologists have visited the site, and everyone agrees that continued research should be done. Many acres of land are still unexplored, and what may lie below ground could change SC history.'' This is a property that you have to see to fully appreciate all of the potential!
