As a former military family member with multiple moves around the world, I know first hand that moving can be a stressful, scary event. When our children were very young, we were transferred out of country to Berlin, GE and away from family for the first time ever. There were lots of questions and concerns about being so far away. As was the military's practice, my husband was assigned a sponsor to help answer questions and prepare for our arrival. We learned that our energetic sponsor's family was similar to ours in number and age of the children. That really helped and we felt as though we had friends waiting for us when we arrived...and we did. They had made WELCOME signs, brought treats for the children and took us to our new home where we found a refrigerator stocked with all the essentials. It was a wonderful beginning. Later, we were able to sponsor other new families and carry on the tradition. Relocation referrals allow me to continue making a difference, and I love it.
