Hamilton Lake encompasses 3,375± acres of wilderness with two private mountain lakes, Hamilton Lake and Sand Lake, in the southern Adirondack Park. The larger lake spans 143± acres with more than three miles of shoreline. Assembled in the 1890s by steamship magnate John Stairn, the estate reflects the legacy of the Great Camp era while offering modern comfort. The original lodge stands along the north shore beside a sandy beach and nine hole golf course, with a boathouse, lean to, and stone terraces completing the lakeside setting. Nearby, Sand Lake covers 24± acres with a collection of seasonal camps recalling its time as a Boy Scout retreat. The main lodge retains its early character with stone fireplaces, maple floors, fir paneled walls, and wraparound porches overlooking the water.
