In 1788 lots were auctioned. Buyers received a lot IN the commons and a larger parcel OUT of the commons. This OUT land was used for "common grazing" of the horses and cattle with the land not being "organized" until after the Mexican War. Those who lived here saw the history of Allegheny City, its ups, downs, from founding to annexation to Pittsburgh in 1907. People lived here, solved problems impacting the world.
