Oriental is an active and constantly changing real estate market. After receiving several different recommendations and speaking to a variety of residents, one name kept coming up, Suzanne and Larry Gwaltney of Sail/Loft Realty. We initially decided to investigate renting long term to see if we liked the area enough to buy, and Suzanne was completely on board with that and showed us several nice properties in the Village of Oriental. But, the more we thought about it, the more we knew we wanted the ability to become more of a part of the community. We had an idea what we wanted, but Suzanne pulled out all the stops to make it work for us. Very pleased with her competency, clarity and responsiveness and never felt compromised by her dual-agency (she represented the seller, too) during the whole process. To top it all off, ten days after our initial offer to purchase was accepted, Hurricane Florence struck, doing significant damage to her own residence and to many of the properties in and around Oriental. Thankfully, our property emerged unscathed (recent construction) and she did everything seamlessly to facilitate our inspections and closing. We were very pleased with her local recommendations for lawyer/surveyor/home inspection/pest inspection and service providers. Since closing eight weeks ago, we've spent some part of five weeks here, as a matter of fact, writing this overlooking the Neuse River from our upstairs porch. We had told her that we really liked the condominium complex where we were currently renting, but that the unit was too small. Suzanne helped us negotiate a closing date for a month later, worked to get us an allowance to fix two cabinet doors that needed repair, and negotiated a reserve to cover any assessments that might be made to condo homeowners due to Hurricane Florence damage. She was prompt and tried to seek closure on all three issues. Continually Suzanne has been a source for finding people to do a bit of renovation work on the unit, and at closing again offered to be a resource for us as we 'fit in' to the community. We have appreciated her professional and prompt response and action as we proceeded with this sale.
