"Some things to expect here are a mediocre world languages department, math department, and a complete lack of support for stufents of color. we have amazing academies, but their exclusiveness keeps its resources from being accessed by the students who need it. Paideia is praised as being brilliant, but white people dominate it. I was one of 5 black students in my class, there were 3 Latina girls, 4 Asian guys, and then the rest of the class was white (class of thirty students). Also expect racial profiling by school police. The facilities here are awful. There is no soap, napkins, and multiple occasions have I been in bathrooms with NO TOILET PAPER. They're dirty, they smell awful, stall doors are broken, and they're often randomly locked so you don't even have access. The cafeteria is a joke, if you want to eat anything good here you need to leave campus. It's not large enough to support all the students who eat here, as the lunch lines can sometimes last until the middle of lunch."

"What I liked about Oakland Tech was the support I received from some of the staff. They encouraged me to take rigorous classes and be excited to apply to college. I would like to see this school have more appreciation for diversity. I know most of the staff is all for it, but for the past years fewer minorities have been enrolling in this high school and when officials from the district are notified, they could honestly care less because they have stated that they "can't afford to lose the white families". It is disappointing to me that they care more about privileged students rather than trying to help those students who come from underrepresnted backgrounds."

"My overall experience at Tech was pretty good, I made a bunch of good friends and I learned a lot from them. My teachers that I encountered were very nice and caring. However, counseling and club activities are the weak sides of Tech."

"Tech offers amazing programs and academies such as Paideia and Engineering, but ostracizes those not within said programs.Diversity at this school creates a wonderful cultural exchange but finds itself segregated due to exclusiveness in academies and programs. While few members of the administration are wonderful without a doubt, many are very inefficient and sometimes backward in their work and decisions. The terrible physical education department finds a way to not even address physical or mental health within the classes. The music, art, and drama departments are award winning and allow an amazing cultural exchange. However, the school always seems to find a way to give most of its money towards cheerleading outfits and salaries for unnecessary administrators and not towards any art programs or teachers who find themselves so desperately in need of supplies.Overall, while the school can be very dysfunctional, it offers great teachers, resources, and classes to those who seek them out."

"Overall, Oakland Technical high school is definitely the best school in Oakland Unified School District for its variety of challenging courses and academies. Its prominent Paideia program encourages students to discuss social issues that are relevant today. Paideia teaches students to observe historical trends in history to identify the long historical roots of today's world problems and to find a solution to each issue. The Computer Science Academy was funded by Intel recently which brought many internships and summer opportunities to the students. I always feel challenged in these courses. However, Spanish teachers in our school are generally terrible, and no one has ever learned anything properly in Spanish class."
